“National Taiwan CraftResearch and Development Institute, Taipei Branch” was completed in the end of2015. The Institute has dedicated itself into gathering all the highest levelcraft works in Taiwan. It has set its mission to be the best organizationshowing professional crafts. It aims not only to be the best location to showTaiwan’s 'Soft Power' to the world, but also to be the global leader of craftstrend. As a platform, it hopes to form Taiwanese craft industry and itsbranding, as well as national culture image. In the end of 2016, this is thefirst anniversary of Taipei Branch. In order to present Taiwanese culture withoriginal artwork, the Institute presents an exhibition The Carnival of the Animals of Artist Hung Yi to manifest theTaiwanese culture characteristic of highly individualism and time. The exhibitwill celebrate the first anniversary with the public and welcome the upcoming newyear.
HungYi is a Taiwanese contemporary artist. His creation comes from lives andculture of traditional Taiwanese society and utilizes the elements and imageswithin. Transforming abstract composition of the modern art, Hung Yisuccessfully blends the idea with local Taiwanese language and symbols. Hisartwork penetrates traditional, modern and contemporary times, expressing thetime with contemporary perspective; similarly, Taipei Branch is bestowed uponhistorical background and seeks to present new ambience and mission after therestoration.
The exhibit shows HungYi’s various period of artwork, including the collection of Enamel baked on thesteel plates, Titanium on Stainless steel and ceramics. Through its diversityof artistic expression, the exhibit aims to let the public understand andappreciate the beauty of Hung Yi’s art world. Though, figure and concept of Wild Boar, Goat, Ox, Fowl and Monkey on theHorse are already renowned to the public, Hung Yi has transformed them intomore interesting and lively personalities. Also, the colors on his sculpturesare not about capturing the features of animals but to present another media asthree-dimensional painting. The stories painted on the sculptures havesuper-realism expressions and cultural symbols. The dual transformation offigures and colors has led us out of the common world of shapes and symbols.True discovery is not only finding a new realm of the world but also newperspective. In Hung Yi’s art work, we could see the whole new possibilitiesfor sculptures in the future.
