Lacquerware
Wang Ching-Shuang
This work “Pine and Crane for Longevity” was completed at the creator's age over 80. It reflects a stirring emotion from creator that often when staring at the rising sun and feeling the breeze blowing slowly through the gray hair, what was rising in the heart was not lament for the passing years, but a self-demanding that he can be as dynamic as the sun, and keep the flame of his own life burning by the artistic brilliance.
On the sleek bottle, six white red-crowned cranes either hover in the sky or dwell in the pine, so vivid and as if we hear the clear music of birds echoing in the ears, as if they are chanting life of abundance and mood in lighting. The facial flushing sun is a symbol for an outlook and joy on life.
The bottleneck embellished with a four-patch “good fortune” pattern gold foil, implying everything goes well, the soul nurtured through arts will be as bright as gold and illuminate the younger generation’s confusion. The bottle mouth surrounded by the basic colors of lacquers which are red, black and gold, respectively representing the lengthy festivity, calm and quietness, and contentment and recuperation.
Master Wang Ching-Shuang used Ramee-Lacquer Unearthed and flat Maki-e techniques to complete the mellow and full bottle, implying the pursuit of life perfection.
