When entering Chung-shan Huang workshop, you will first be greeted by a Crested Myna. The second thing that will draw you in is a pure white statue of the Bodhisattva. The statue is so beautiful and vivid that it is difficult to imagine that such an extraordinary work is made of coral. Speaking to this, Huang said that the greatest challenge in sculpting coral is submitting to the material. To be a coral sculptor, one must always be willing to carve in a way that suits the piece at hand. He says that a perfect carving can only come when the artist surrenders to his craft.
