Wen-chang Tseng discovered and developed his talent for carving in wood and stone on his own. He says, "Carving from imagination is much more di cult than carving reality." His carvings focus on the emotional expressions of their characters. Di culties he encountered in life have made him more sensitive to, and therefore more successful at carving, such feeling. His style is ever-evolving, but a sense of warmth and playfulness can always be felt. Most of his wood sculptures are done in a modern style, while those in stone are more traditional.
