Infantile paralysis meant that Chih-song Lu was destined to spend life in a wheelchair. While other children were having fun outside, Lu observed the beauty of the world from paintings, carvings and calligraphy. Growing up, Lu began to take an interest in stone carving. He especially likes ugly or peculiar stones. He says, "An ugly stone can be turned into a masterpiece when placed in the right hands."
