A living encyclopedia of lacquerware and chromatology, Li-shu Huang is a living treasure. Her skilled hands have produced countless works of inestimable value.
Huang's first encounter with lacquerware was purely accidental. When she was working for the NTCRI, she was put in charge of designing bamboo products thanks to her apprenticeship with Tu-shan Huang. While doing research in this position, she learned from Japanese floriculture that lacquer can prolong the life of bamboo products. Since this discovery, her works have been a marriage of bamboo art and lacquerware.
